The thrill of Book Events

Have you ever participated in a book signing event? If so, you probably know what I mean when I say they can be “thrilling.”

Of course, a book event is only as good as what you make of it.

If you are a new author expecting readers to walk up to you, interested, because you wrote a book, you may not have such a great time.

That was my experience at my first signing event at a mall.  I left in tears but learned a lot thanks to one kind stranger who came up to my table, spoke to me and decided to help me out.  I swear she was an angel in disguise.

Since that time, I have changed how I do things at signing events.  What I do may not work for everyone as authors should have their own individual strategies and goals, apart from others. Over the past eight years, I have revamped my look, appearance, personal goals and strategy at each event that I have attended and it has worked for me.  You can do this, too.

Look at what is working and what is not.  Sometimes you have to try different things, buy or invest in different things.  Give everything a couple of months and then review.  If it’s not working, let it go.  If it is great, incorporate it into what you do and see if there is anything else that needs to be tweaked.  I do this all the time and sometimes I think I drive myself crazy doing this.  Don’t follow this same path I do (haha). Do what is best for you.

Remember, each book event is an opportunity to meet with and engage with new readers!  Make the best of it.
