What does “Paranormal” mean?

When you think of the word “paranormal,” what comes to mind?

I think magical, worldly, and creative. The word “dark” comes to mind, too.

I enjoy writing paranormal romance because of this. There is so much you can do with a

paranormal being that you can’t with a human being and I just love the endless possibilities that exist when you open your mind.

There are rules you have to abide by- yes. You can find these in any “Google” search and I do, when writing about a specific shape shifter. I want to keep with the trends that are already out there and with what readers already know and surmise about that type of shape shifter. If you go against the trend too much, readers will balk. And they will tell you. Trust me.

You can bend the rules but don’t break them because readers will be waving bye-bye to you, if you do. If it sounds unreasonable, they will not read it.

So, if you’re dipping your toe into writing paranormal romance for the first time, I congratulate

you. You will have fun if “paranormal” is your thing.

For me, I have always had an interest in the paranormal and things that “go bump in the night.” Spirits, ghosts, angels- they all fascinate me. They tell of a world that we don’t see with our own eyes.

When writing a paranormal romance, keep that in mind. You want the reader to see your world-the world you are writing about. Let them picture it, vividly, step by step, throughout the book and you will gain fans and superfans for life! Good luck to you.
